Allow us to introduce one of the most gorgeous, rare and unbelievably exquisite pieces that will ever come to light in the entire state of North Carolina. This ring is not just a ring. It is a platinum, Art Deco Alexandrite ring that was produced by J.E. Caldwell of Philadelphia, PA. For starters, let us enlighten you on the rarity of alexandrite. If you look around our showroom you will see hundreds if not thousands of diamonds, sapphires, rubies and other beautiful gemstones. Out of the many spectacular pieces of jewelry that we have, there are only two, count them, TWO pieces of jewelry that contain alexandrite. This should tell you that alexandrite, as a whole, is rare and something that you might only find in one out of every 25 jewelry stores that you visit. Now, keeping that in mind, this particular ring houses a 5.73ct cushion shaped center stone that is certified fully natural and more impressively totally unenhanced by the American Gemological Laboratory. An interesting quality of alexandrite is that it is one of just a few color changing gemstones. In normal daylight conditions, alexandrite appears to be a very desirable, deep hunter green. Under incandescent lighting (hint, hint a romantic candle lit dinner), alexandrite changes its appearance to a gorgeous maroon, burgundy purple hue. This is caused by small amounts of trace elements like Chromium in the internal atomic structure of the Chrysoberyl mineral. The ring is composed of nearly pure platinum, which is undoubtedly the most elite of metals used for jewelry and when compared to gold, platinum is more than 30 times rarer in nature. Speaking of elite, this rings’ manufacturer was J.E. Caldwell who in the 1920s was one of the most prominent and exclusive jewelers in the United States. Based in Philadelphia, PA, J.E. Caldwell was most known for their creativeness and use of the most exquisite, colored gemstones. In doing research a lot of their pieces have survived the test of time and now grace the pages of numerous jewelry magazines and are the prized possessions of jewelry collectors. Like most of the other Caldwell pieces this ring will be a piece that will stand the test of time and for you, should remain a fixture in your family’s prized possessions for generations upon generations. The ring is a size 6.25 and can be sized. Appraised Value $250,000.00
